Multiple numbers per user   (Germany)

What I miss most in swyx is the ability to add multiple numbers to one user. I don't like it to have my global address book filled with 3 or more entries for every employee's name.

I would like to see one name and after that multiple colums with their office number / Cell phone number / Fax / private .... etc. Basically like it is with Outlook/Exchange.

Re: Multiple numbers per user   (Germany)

I see the point, but why not simply using Outllok/Exchange then as main/only source of contact data ?

I have a personal phonebook myself in my SwyxIt! but I have never used it! I just use my Outlook contacts (my private ones and the "global" contacts).

Regards, Tom.

Re: Multiple numbers per user   (Germany)

The thought behind it is that the users always have the up-to-date list off all the contact numbers of our own employees. The current work-around is a public folder in exchange which needs to be updated manually all the time and clients need to be set to resolve the names from this folder. Which for me is quite a pain since we have a lot of fluctuation in personell. So I need to update the data on two different systems and on the client side as well.

Therefore I think adding a few extra fields in the user profiles would bring a lot of advantages.

Re: Multiple numbers per user   (Germany)

But what if after these few fields are added to the SwyxWare global phonebook you realise that you still need more fields (like address, email adress, website, picture, and so on) ? And not only for the users of your SwyxWare but for all other manually added entries in your global phonebook, too.

Then again you end up with Exchange/Outlook or Lotus Notes and handle with two different systems.

That's why I suggested to use Outlook/Exchange as only source. Using the Active Directoy Extension from the SwyxWare DVD you can manage all your users from the AD. The only thing you need to configure per client is the configuration of the Outllok Addin to use a certain public folder as well. With digging a little bit in the details I am sure this can be automated in an easy way as well.

Tom.

Re: Multiple numbers per user   (Germany)

I will look into this AD Extension. I did not know such a thing existed in the first place. That could solve it. Thank you!

Re: Multiple numbers per user   (Netherlands)

I think I have a similar issue : our company will move so we will get new telephone numbers. As a temp solution I need to have 2 external phone numbers per user. In AD I have just 1 phone number, so that won't solve my problem. I would like to export my user database, add the numbers to it and import it again. Is there an easy way to do it ?

Hello De_Buurman,

I think you talk about different things: The question from Novatech in this thread is about having several numbers within one entry of the global phonebook.
But I think you are talking about adding an additonal public number within the configuration of your Swyx users accounts, right?
I saw your other thread about it: http://www.swyx-forum.com/community/Forums/tabid/54/forumid/-1/threadid/10519/scope/posts/Default.aspx
Let's continue your topic there and not mix it here together with the other one.

Best regards
Andreas
