With these number I really don't see the necessitiy to open up german forums. In fact I would exclude the majority of users from useful information.

You are so right Tom...
Perhaps this is a good moment to introduce some more English words in your language...
(I think there is no official translation in Dutch for the word 'Computer'....)

If another language than english is used in a thread, a lot of people will be cut of from this information.

That's absolutely true, but.......on the other hand you cut off a lot of german-only speaking people. Yes, there're lot of admins out there who do not want/are not able to speak english. That's why i.e. my own website and blog is in German only. I do see it in other technical forums how important it is to provide an area with native speaking info. For many users the inhibition threshold drops to ask a question if they do not need to translate in addition to their original problem.
How about a mixed forum? Maybe a visible remark/notice at the entrance that you can choose in which language you want to ask? Well, if someone posts in French and get's no answer....he could switch to English anyways.
Have a nice day!

That brings me back to the idea of copying the text from the startpage (regarding the languages) also on top of the forum page. Maybe with some country flags to get some more attention...
But I still don't like the idea of having separated forums for different languages. I simply wouldn't know where to start and where to stop ? Which language would get it's own forums, which not ? Just German as the biggest market of Swyx, or also the Scandinavian languages ? What's about Italian and French ?
People already start to complain about the number of different forums now. What would they say with having a huge amount of language depending forums additionaly ?
From my point of view every language can be used in every forum, just like now. From time to time there are some german threads already in the forum. One gets an idea from the thread subject which language is used.

Ok, on top of the forum page (and the start page as well) you'll find a couple of flags and the "Swyx Forum langauge dislaimer".
If you wonder about the flag selection: that's the languages SwyxWare is available in.
If you wonder about the flag ordering: they are ordered by the number of Swyx Forum users of that country, except UK and Germany which are exchanged.

Tom,
Just a minor thing... I can see your point about the flags and countries:
"they are ordered by the number of Swyx Forum users of that country,"
But what about all the other countries? Did you forget them? (To be honest the first one I was thinking of was our dear beloved Mirjam Baumberger from New Zealand...) Maybe we should at least try to give a little feeling that they also are welcome overhere by putting the United Nations flag in the same row like hotels and other international places do?

Hi Wilco
Maybe a little rude to call Mirjam a bear *lol*.
The flags represents the languages, not the countries themselves. Since they speak 'english' down under the Union Jack will cover that. Mirjam also speaks German, so she is actually 'represented' by two flags
United Nations flag is a good idea. Then everybody would feel welcome. Then we could also remove all the flags because then we are back to the basic message again. After all; every languages have been welcomed from the first this forum aired.....
But thanks for the proposal. Tom, are you ready for a new flag ceremony at the server room??

I am not going to display all flags of all european countries, plus NZ, Australia, UAE, etc. pp.
As I wrote, these are the languages SwyxWare is available in. In other countries you use any of them, so it's sufficient to list these countries.

I'd spent some time at the german navy years ago. I know how to celebrate a flag parade every sunrise and sunset
Any wishes for the music being played for the ceremony ?

I think it would be great to have a flag for each country where swyx is represented and then ordered by the member in the comunity.
It would be great to see how swyx is taking over the planet.

Hi Andy,
in deed, it would be nice to have somewhere a list of all countries (flags) where SwyxWare is used in.
But: thats not the intention of the language hint on Swyx Forum. Its all about languages, not countries.
Of course I could add add all countries appearing in the Swyx Forum user list to the flag list as well. But what would that be good for ? What ever country and what ever language is spoken in that country, if they use SwyxWare they have to use it in one of the available language. Therefore it is safe to assume (imho) that the people do speak such language(s) as well.
I don't want Swyx Forum to become a flag bazar. Its just a hint about the languages one could use here, mainly that it's not fixed to english.
