Problem dialing internal extensions  (United Kingdom)

Hi again,

Over the weekend I have upgraded a client to v6.12 from v5. All seems to have gone OK bar a couple of small problems. You will have to bear with me as this explanation may be long winded...

I have a problem when string dialling (i.e. hook off first) some internal extensions after the upgrade. In this organisation each user has two extensions one for Voicemail/remote inquiry and one for calls. The Voicemail number always starts with a 0 and the next two digits of the extension .e.g. Bob has the extensions 202 and 002. 002 has call routing for the VM and RI scripts. So out of all these numbers I can call ones beginning in with 00, 02, and 04. If I try to call any of the other voicemail numbers i.e. 034 it will fail after the second digit 03. If I call using a speed dial or with the handset on hook it will work fine.

This has me a bit baffled so any suggestions would be great. I have checked the routing table and it does not have any entries starting with 0. The Public access prefix is 9.

Thanks

Nathan

I have had a responce on this through other channels that seems to point the problem at the long distance prefix being 0 and the extension numbers in question starting with 0.

Some informaition on this system.

DDIs, BT currently delivers 5 digits.

04200-04269

09070-09099

02730-02799

08780-08799

Country Code 44

Area code 20

International Prefix 00

Long Distance 0

External prefix 9

I do not understand why this should effect it as it is not an external call as no 9 has been dialled. I am also struggling with why the 00, 02 and 04 ranges work. I thought this may be related to the DDI ranges but then would expect numbers starting with 09 and 08 to work but they don't. :-/

Anyway my next question is if I get BT to increase the amount of digits they send to 6, will this solve the problem? or make things worse. as I currently have users with extensions 204,209,202 and 208. With the extra digit it would look like this.

204200-204269

209070-209099

202730-202799

208780-208799

Any other solutions which people have to transfer direct to voice mail with out using "dummy" extension numbers may help too.

Thanks again

Nathan

Let's talk about Bob... What do you mean? Does Bob has two different internal numbers assigned to his user account or are we talking about Bob having to users accounts, one 202 and another one 002?

In 6.12 you have a feature code to dial voicemail / RI, just dial ##10 from your phone and you will access the voicemail system. On SwyxIt! and SwyxPhone you have always been able to do that. Using SwyxPhone that is the first option you get when you do a off hook. Using SwyxIt! you can just right click on the voicemail icon and select your choice.

Re: Problem dialing internal extensions  (United Kingdom)

Sorry i may have been a little confusing

Bob is an example user, he has two extension 202 and 002

if you call 002 you will be routed straight to his voicemail.

If you call 202 you will follow his normail call routing . Call his phone for 15 seconds call his assistant for 15 seconds and then on to voicemail.

Sometimes if a call comes in to reception  they want to transfer straight to someones voicemail but not have to wait 30 seconds. Or they may have got through to Bob and he does not want to talk to them but wants them to leave a message as he is in a conferense with someone.

I hope that is a little clearer.

Re: Problem dialing internal extensions  (Norway)

Why not reconfigure all the 00x extensions to 30x? Problem solved? Do you need the extension to start with a 0 for any functionality?

Re: Problem dialing internal extensions  (United Kingdom)

Yeah i could do that but the system has been in place with 0 numbers for voicemail for 5+ years so a change like that would be a little awkward.

Thanks

Re: Problem dialing internal extensions  (United Kingdom)
Well firstly, I think this is the reason that Swyx recommends starting extension numbers from 100. Secondly, you could try changing the Long distance code to something unused like 7 or 8 and test it. Remember to try all variations of the number, especially local calls dialled without an area code.Alternatively could you please post what is in your routing table? Thanks.

Re: Problem dialing internal extensions  (United Kingdom)

I ended up taking out the long distance prefix and doing a bit of number replacement to sort this out. Not the nicest solution but it works and is transparent to the end user.

Thanks
