Call quality with remote SwyxGate  (United Kingdom)

Hi all,

I am having some problems with call quality using as remote SwyxGate. I have a SwyxServer running at one office (ADSL Max) and a PC running SwyxGate hoting 4 channels of ISDN at a remote office (also ADSL Max). Both sites have a fairly decent connection speed ping times etc are acceptable between sites and G.729 is being used. However, I keep losing chunks of incoming audio and am ofter told that the outbound audio is quiet. I am using Draytek routers with endpoint VPN.

If anyone could offer any ideas as to how to improve this, or how to better configure QoS on the Drayteks, I would be very happy to hear from you :-)  !!!!

Many thanks in advance,

Tom.

Re: Call quality with remote SwyxGate  (Norway)

I suggest you try to find out where the loss / silence is taking place. The most convinient way to do that would be to run WireShark ( www.wireshark.org ) on both servers. Make a call and analyze the data afterwards. In WireShark choose VoIP Calls from the Statistics, find your call and choose player. You will be able to play back the media stream...

Re: Call quality with remote SwyxGate  (Germany)

AFAIK wireshark is not able to decode G.729 codec ;) . But VLC can do it you you can use http://www.voiceage.com/openinit_g729_eula.php

Thanks guys.

Will take some traces and see what I can deduce from the results. Just have to try and dig out some hubs from somewhere!!!   :-)

Re: Call quality with remote SwyxGate  (Norway)

Tom, did you find a solution to this? Since SwyxWare uses H.323 for remote gateways, this might be connected to the routers capabilities to handle H.323. Just a tought.
