Tracing

From time to time we need traces from the SwyxIt! Client machine itself, and not only traces that are available on the server.

I find myself explaining the procedure over and over again, so it is about time I write it down in the Wiki and forward the URL in the future.

How to start traces on the SwyxIt! Client machine

The tracing is activated by several registry keys in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Swyx\Client Line Manager\CurrentVersion\Tracing

Luckily, you do not need to add this manually. There are four registry files in the SwyxIt! program file folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\SwyxIt!).

* TraceOff.reg
* TraceOff-x64.reg
* TraceOn.reg
* TraceOn-x64.reg

The name of the files should be pretty selfexplaning. So all you need to do is to double click on the TraceOn file and import it to the registry. Restart the SwyxIt! client if you did not exit it before importing the reg-keys.

Where is the trace files located

The files will be stored in the temp folder of the current user logged into the Windows machine.

To locate the files in an easy manner, open a Windows Explorer window (like My Computer) and type %temp% in the address field, then press enter.

In the Temp folder you will find one or several files that start with the name SwyxIt! and the extension .log. There is also a folder with the label Swyx.

Please forward these files and the folder to the lucky guy who is handling your support case.
