I have written about the startup of our company, UCIT. Finally every piece of the puzzle is in place.
There have been two months of intensive work going on now. The first thing I had to do was to design our hosting facility. So I am very happy that it is now up and running and we are just about to put customers on. The agreement with Swyx is in place. It is good to know that they believe in us and have been willing to trust us with the partnership for the Norwegian market. I hope it helped to have some good relation with Swyx during the last four years, but anyway, we are on our own now and no longer backed by large corporations.

We have been lucky (well, hard work and a good product) and have been chosen to become a Partner of a relatively large SP in Norway. Their main products are access and PSTN backbone, so we are pretty sure that we are a good match. Hosted SwyxWare should be perfect as a value added service on top of their own services. My primarily task is to design and run the platform of our production. As you probably have guessed; the platform is Hosted SwyxWare. I have found the Swyx approach to TaaS (Telephony as a service) to be quite clever. When everybody is talking about multi-tenant, Swyx took their existing SwyxWare and wrapped it up with tools to make it run well in a datacenter. Hosted SwyxWare is basically a mix of three components, 1) A server cluster running Parallel Virtuozzo Containers and MS SQL Server, 2) a license server that is reporting the monthly usage to Swyx for billing and 3) SwyxWare.
What makes this solution unique from my perspective is the ability to assign a virtual 2003 server (vPBX) to each an every customer. This makes us do stuff that other platforms will have a hard time doing.
Each customer have a unique IP Address assigned to the vPBX, making security easy to implement and administer
- Issues in one vPBX will not affect other customers
- We can allow the customer to install 3rd party software in the vPBX for integration with other IT services, because it is not affecting other customers
- The vPBX can be a member of the customer domain, making perfect integration with other IT systems, like Exchange server
- The existing range of 3rd party software for SwyxWare will work in a hosted enviroment
These are important factors, I think, to deliver flexible solutions to customers. I was among the once being skeptical to Hosted SwyxWare not being a multitenant solution, but after working with the concept for soon two years I see the benefits for the current solutions.
