We decided to start our own company! I am no longer an YIT employee.
All the details are not in place yet, but I want to share this with the whole Swyx scene now. As some might know, I have been into the special product range from Swyx named Hosted SwyxWare. This is SwyxWare wrapped in some third party technology making it very suitable for Service Providers. This is the way of the future… (this has been my opinion for years, but the HSW concept makes it in reach for even small startup companies).
We know a few things; Our company will offer Hosted SwyxWare ready to use. With at least one partner we will host the servers in a datacenter and produce the services as White Label. This means that companies that wants to offer business class hosted IP Telephony can buy the services from us and resell it to their customers, without the need to invest a lot in hardware/software and knowledge. They simply buy on a per user (and feature), per month, basis.
As Cloud Computing is predicted to be (or already is) the next big thing on the Internet, we decided to add telephony to the cloud, Cloud Communication. Well, I know that technically it is really not a cloud technology because the servers are centrally placed and for the moment we need to connect the customers using VPN technology. But as no-one knows the future for SwyxWare, I think it is better to be ahead and start introducing it as cloud communication.
The company name is ‘UCIT Nordic’ (Unified Communication / Integrated Telephony) and the logo looks like this:
The best thing to run its own company is that there is no rigid marketing department putting strict rules on what I can write in the blog. There is a lot I have always wanted to share with the community, but I could not do it because of the terms I was bound to in my contract.
In spirit of our own product range, I have a goal that our entire IT system will be hosted in the cloud. I will write about how this is working out in the blog later. I have already signed up for Google Apps for Domains, so our email and office suite is based on Google solutions. I must say I was a little bit skeptical to Google Apps; Would it have the features to replace Microsoft Office or OpenOffice. It is sure missing some features, but I must admit that Google has been very good at picking the features you really use. It is amazing to see how many features from ‘real’ office suites that one never use.
