Swyx Trace Tool, the diagnostics tool we introduced in v6.12, has got some new features, too. The automatic cleanup tasks now has three steps:
- Step 1: All trace files of each application except the current one are compressed into a ZIP file
- Step 2: All memory dump files are compressed into a ZIP file
- Step 3: Old ZIP files are deleted according to the auto-cleanup settings
The compression is done on a low-priority thread to not disturb normal operation. Because of this feature the default retention time is now 7 days. In v6.12 this had been 3 days.
Side node: SwyxServer’s tracing has been improved and is a lot faster now. In v6.12 under heavy load there was a considerable impact of the default tracing we enable out-of-the box. Now that impact is much lower.
When you upload traces to Swyx, all communications between Trace Tool and our upload server is encrypted, i.e. it’s done via TLS.
The default files added to an upload now contain all *.config and *.xml files from the SwyxWare program folder, plus version information of the SX2 ISDN driver.
The system information now includes network configuration information.
Last, but not least a small usability improvement now allows you to change the trace and dump folder location via the Trace Tool UI. Folders you set this way are applied globally to all SwyxWare services on the server and is retained during future updates. That brings me to a final note for this post: When you update from v6.12, Trace Tool resets the trace and dump folder to the the default location. If you had another path set, use TraceTool to reconfigure it after the update.
