I could have used the opportunity to write about what happened in the US air space seven years ago on this day. But I won't. I will write about something happening on this day in 1822.

The Church permitted the publication of works describing the motion of Earth, resolving around the sun, finally accepting what nature had accepting all along; We are not the center of the universe.

Unfortunately, this was a little late for the Italian mathematician Galileo Galilei  which had been condemned for heresy by the Roman Inquisition in 1633, spending the rest of his life under house arrest.

In 2000, Pope John Paul II apologized for the way the Catholic Church treated Galileo.
