Last August I wrote about updating my main development machine to Windows Vista x64. YesterdayAbout a week ago, I decided that it's now time to do the same on my notebook. It's not possible to directly upgrade from Vista 32bit to x64 so I made a backup of my user folder to an external hard disk and started from scratch. About 35minutes after inserting the Vista x64 DVD, the system was up and running again. Connecting to the Internet was just a question of finding and entering the WPA key of my wireless LAN. Running Windows Update brought some additional drivers and everything was working again. The only device which I couldn't find a driver for is the built-in web cam. But I don't use it anyway. Altogether a really smooth and easy setup. Some more time was necessary to restore my files and reinstall Office 2007, Visual Studio, etc.. But now everything is working again. Tags: |
